Bournemouth Students Prepare for the Ultimate Send-Off
Being a student at Bournemouth University definitely has its perks. This year has seen a host of widely varied student organised music events such as Lollipop, We Are Your Friends, Foreverland, Enter/Drumfunk, Suddenly Funk, amongst many more. However, these events would not have been made possible without SUBU, Bournemouth’s Student Union.
So we were more than excited to see exactly what they have prepared in order to end the year with a bang, their annual Summer Ball. Named ‘The Most Successful Summer Ball in Britain’ and running for over 20 years now, 7000 students donning the fanciest of fancy dress will embark towards the festival site, with free buses included. We had an amazing time last year when Sigma headlined, with a fantastically varied line up with acts ranging from well known DJ’s such as Julio Bashmore to new and upcoming bands such as Sunset Sons. Any Bournemouth Student who wasn’t there was missing out.
And that’s no exception to this year, with chart topping producer DJ Fresh leading the party with massive hits such as Gold Dust or Hot Right Now featuring Rita Ora, as well as countless others. We’re also expecting him to drop some new tracks from his newest EP ‘How Love Begins.’ You can expect an eclectic mix of feel-good party anthems that everyone can get down to.
Singer, songwriter AND record producer MNEK will also be there, with recent writing and production credits going to humungous global acts such as Beyonce, Diplo and Naughty Boy. Radio 1 Extra DJ Charlie Sloth will also be there to get the crowd jumping as well as everyone’s favourite hip-hop classic Fatman Scoop. 99 Souls, Chip, Vant, Ekkah, The Amazons and Patrick Naziem will also be joining the line-up.
And if that isn’t enough, there will also be a range of free funfair rides for any of those brave enough to allow their intoxicated states entry, a selection of food stands to accommodate those drunken appetites and after parties hosted by We Are Your Friends at The Old Firestation and Ambush at The Bunker – we expect to see a lot of you partying into the early hours!
We can’t forget to mention the 7am survivors photo for those willing to make one last trek to Bournemouth’s beach and make the hall of fame.
With only a few days to go, those who haven’t yet sorted out their fancy dress will need to do so pronto. Anyone not dressed up will surely stick out like a sore thumb (a potential fancy dress idea?) Tickets are still available online, from the campus Student Shop or from The Old Firestation. You’ll have to be quick though, as this is a sell-out event every year.
