The Hydra Comes To Printworks, London

Founded by Dolan Bergin and Ajay Jayaram, The Hydra is one of London’s most prominent underground electronic music promoters. Now celebrating over five years worth of events, The Hydra has made a name for itself transforming obscure London settings into some of the best event spaces; churches, old warehouses, loft spaces, a capsule of the London Eye, and the list goes on.

This ongoing event mobility found The Hydra taking control of Wapping’s Studio Spaces, transforming git into a three-room club experience in an era of “increasingly rigid and authoritarian controls”. This space saw the event organisers produce shows for some of the industry’s biggest names including Blueprint, Ninja Tune and Dekmantel.

2016 saw The Hydra move from Studio Spaces to work on London’s newest venue Printworks, as well as working with some of the capital’s biggest clubs; The Troxy, fabric and Ministry of Sound to name but a few. The Hydra has now also moved into summer festivals and events, curating stages for the likes of Croatia’s Dimensions Festival, and London’s Lovebox and Junction 2 events.

The New Year brings another new chapter for the duo behind The Hydra and sees their first ever show at Printworks bring in some of electronic music’s most well-respected names. Daphni AKA Caribou will headline alongside breathtaking electronic producer Floating Points. The one and only Joy Orbison will provide a musically chilling support to the headliners with producer Gold Panda coming in fresh from the release of his third album entitled ‘Good Luck and Do Your Best’. The Hydra co-founder, Bergin, also makes the Room 1 lineup.

Printworks also tackles London’s late-night licensing issues, going down the same path as Tobacco Dock offering dance music fans all-day parties. The Hydra’s event will run on March 4th from 12pm-10:30pm, leaving ample recovery time before Monday morning comes around. This new generation of events is proving popular with clubbers and has allowed many venues to gain easy licenses from councils. We’re excited to meet our first experience at Printworks next week. See you there!
