MarsterMix at Motion, Bristol

After an eagerly anticipated wait, the man of the moment Jackmaster made his return to Bristol’s super club Motion. It was the first instalment of MasterMix to hit the city and it definitely won’t be the last. MasterMix is set to host a stage at the famous Love Saves The Day in Eastville Park in Bristol. Event host Jackmaster has been using his DJing charisma and skill to put on some memorable parties across the UK and Europe. This combined with a heavyweight line up of Glaswegian techno talent meant that this event sold out at maximum capacity across three rooms, full of fans that had made the trip from all over the UK.

The lineup in the main room consisted of Jackmaster, Optimo, Harri & Domenic, and Natalie, as well as an extraordinary finale of Jackmaster b2b Optimo. Motion’s second room also demonstrated the talent coming out of Glasgow with a strong lineup consisting of Jasper James, one of the breakthrough DJ’s of 2017, and the showman that is Denis Sulta. Additionally, the infamously intimate Motion Tunnel provided the perfect setting for Big Miz to showcase his talents.

The first act we caught was the surprise act of the night, Harri & Domenic. These are a duo that I was not familiar with before but will definitely follow now, mixing some hard-hitting techno classics with house-y disco cuts, got the crowd buzzing and set the stage nicely for the rest of the night. Next on our agenda was the duo Optimo. There set consisted of their own material mixed with some less known tunes that got the crowd into a party vibe. Leaving half way through Optimo allowed us to catch part of Big Miz’s set, and it did not disappoint. Playing discoy tracks mixed with more serious ambient sounding rhythms gave him the perfect balance that drew a huge crowd to the tiny tunnel. His track ‘The Bomb’ was probably the best of the night and transcended the crowd into a frenzy.

It was then time for the man himself, Jackmaster, to hit the decks in the main room. With the room at full capacity, the atmosphere in the space had reached its peak and was buzzing. Jackmaster showcased his trademark mixing ability mixing various tracks from differing genres, highlighting some of his more well-known tunes with several out of this world new remixes. Mixing what sounded like old school 90s rave tunes with more modern techno sounds, Jackmaster really stole the show and the crowd repaid him with the best atmosphere and party vibe of the night. Finally, Denis Sulta was last on in the second room and it was the perfect way to end the night, making sure the party vibe carried on right until close. With his endless energy behind the decks and tracks to match. The highlight being his classic remix of ‘Meet Her at the Love Paradee’, which sent the crowd into hysterics and finished the night on a massive high.
