inSYNC Abroad: Bilbao BBK Live 2023

The year 2023 marked a monumental chapter for Bilbao BBK Live, as the renowned music festival once again triumphed in delivering an electrifying program of artists. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Bilbao in northern Spain, this edition of BBK Live showcased a riveting blend of established icons, rising stars, and cutting-edge artists, which helped shape an unforgettable experience.

From the moment festival-goers set foot on Kobetamendi Hill, it was evident that meticulous planning was behind the seamless organisation of this musical extravaganza. The festival grounds were thoughtfully designed, boasting convenient access to various stages, food stalls, and bars. Combine this with the breathtaking views of the city’s skyline and the vibrant ambience that permeated throughout the weekend, and you had an atmosphere ripe with palpable excitement.

Notable highlights included an iconic performance by Arctic Monkeys; something that was needed from the Sheffield four-piece after a number of heavily publicly criticised performances in the UK, including their Glastonbury headline set just a few earlier. This performance was matched by a final-day set from French indie rock band Phoenix that played to a packed out San Miguel stage. Not only did the group showcase their musical talents but also brought their eclectic display of visual fx and lights. The final song of the set saw frontman Thomas Mars jump into the crowd with his microphone and be hoisted up, standing on the shoulders of members of the audience whilst he closed out the song. 

If you love big name artists, a picturesque festival site and an all night party then BBK Bilbao is for you. It’s not every day you get to stand on a festival site carved into a Basque mountainside. These things coupled with a visit to one of Spain’s most beautiful cities, yet so unvisited by tourists in comparison to some of Spain’s other regions, makes for an absolute must of your summer festival season.
