Tycho at Printworks, London
The smooth organic sounds of Tycho echoed so sensually around London’s hottest art space. The San Fransisco based producer brought his enigmatic sounds as well as his live band to Printworks for another well-received European tour just days after dropping ‘Simulcast’, an instrumental version of his Grammy-nominated 2019 studio record ‘Weather’. The elongated ex-printing factory made for a unique setting for the band to perform; a juxtaposition of the industrial warehouse to Tycho’s natural sounds and chilled beats. This was somewhat of a change in pace compared to the venue’s normal program of high energy techno, house and drum & bass parties.
The forty-three-year-old producer navigated through a comprehensive set of seventeen tracks both new and old. The wide selection of songs from all six of his studio records kept all who were present engaged throughout; a notable point for any good artists’ set. Tycho strategically placed his big hitters throughout the set, with the last album’s title track ‘Weather’ kicking the evening off. ‘Awake’ and ‘No Stress’ acted as the set’s encore. This well-organised track listing showed the group’s talents when it comes to devising a setlist, setting the bar high for their very competent live shows.
The expansive and mind-opening musical style of Tycho has allowed him to gain a loyal fanbase on both sides of the Atlantic, providing something truly different for those lovers of the electronic music scene. Especially for those who love seeing electronic music played in full by a live band.
