Preview: Love Surpreme

Proving its popularity since its inception in 2013, the UK’s first camping jazz festival is back with more soul and blues! This ambitious revival of classical live jazz music infused with British camping culture is yet another reason to get hardcore jazz fanatics and avid festival goers excited this summer. Taking place from the 31st of June, Love Supreme Festival’s promising lineup will be held in the grounds of Gylde Place, which is highly accessible, being only twenty minutes from Brighton and just over an hour from Central London. Inspired by other great European Jazz Festivals such as North Sea Jazz in the Netherlands and Montreau Jazz Festival in Switzerland, expect the event to bring a lot of throwback disco and soulful tunes that will make you boogie in this modern age of hybrid music genres.

Leading 2018’s lineup is one of the funkiest bands ever to grace the worldwide stage, seeing huge commercial success with their self-titled album in 1971. Earth, Wind & Fire will undoubtedly deliver a timeless performance with their household disco tracks,’September’ and ‘Boogie Wonderland’. Their sound was once declared by Rolling Stone magazine to have “changed the sound of black pop” due to their distinguishable rhythm and melodies. An unmissable act out of the headliners in all the UK festivals this year for sure!

Joining them is London-born and raised Elvis Costello along with his back-up band The Imposters. They are set to play some of Elvis’ notable hits like ‘Alison’ and ‘Red Shoes’ from his most critically-acclaimed album, ‘My Aim is True’, which was released in 1977. His live performance and his ever-changing band performers in particular is highly-anticipated by many of his fans having taken a break from touring globally over the last few years. His comeback will not be one to disappoint.

Another English rock musician to add some variety to this heavy lineup; Steve Winwood, known for his hit songs ‘Valerie’ and ‘Higher Love’, and for his remarkable progressive rock sound in the early 60’s will bring nostalgia on stage as he takes us back to the simple time of emerging pop music. This talented multi-instrumentalist was also a part of one of the first supergroups ever created under the name of Blind Faith along with the legendary Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Ric Grech.

That’s not all; the iconic funk music collective, George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic is travelling across the Atlantic to put on an energetic show which would send the audience in the UK crazy for some old-school funk and psychedelic rock. George Clinton has been hailed to be one of the foremost innovators of funk music having strong influence on the global psychedelic culture. Staying relevant at the age of 75, this is not an easy task and George Clinton is one of the few musicians who could and would definitely pull it off.

Having released his debut album Geography this year, the South Londoner has managed to create a distinctive blended sound of hip-hop, jazz and electronica. His undeniable talent and skills has shown that classical instrumentation can be blended into a modern pop format. Tom Misch is definitely one to watch!
