Noisily – This Leicestershire festival on the forefront of UK festival creativity

It’s no secret that the UK festival industry is almost at its knees with more than 170 events now cancelled or postponed since the beginning of the Covid pandemic. A combination of rising event running costs, the large amount of money it costs to book artists due to the increased costs of touring and a lack of ticket sales because of the cost of living crisis has meant many festivals simply cannot continue.

Noisily, on the other hand, is waving the independent UK festival flag high. We haven’t been to the festival since pre-Covid where they have since moved sites. The previous Noisily site was set in some beautiful woodland that has unfortunately had to be cut down due to a tree disease. Upon facing this challenge a few years ago, festival organisers worked hard to find a new home which really does rival the original feel of the festival…in a good way. Set in the enchanting woodlands of Leicestershire, this festival masterfully blends high quality musical production, artistic prowess, and a natural feel, which creates a very unique and immersive atmosphere.

Noisily aren’t just maintaining what they’ve got but they have ambitious plans for growth. Wandering round the site on a sunny Saturday, Nick, one of the festival’s hardworking team, shared with us plans to hopefully increase the festival’s capacity by another 50%. Despite ticket sales being a harder than usual in 2024, this hasn’t deterred Noisily from big dreams. This growth is something that’s so desperately needed in the UK festival scene. A place to inspire other festival creators that this is still possible even in today’s dogged economy. This is easier said than done, however, as Nick talked about the challenges of wanting to grow as a business whilst simultaneously not upsetting their incredibly loyal fan base.

Nestled in the woods each of the five stages has a unique feel and each one plays host to a different genre of dance music. Noisily is known for championing genres that are not in the mainstream like happy hardcore, psy-trance and drum & bass. Walking round the majestic site you really understand what this dedicated team has created with woodland hideouts and stunning visual art installations scattered throughout the forest. These pieces added a surreal, otherworldly dimension to the festival, making every corner a new adventure. The attention to detail in the art and stage design was evident, with each area meticulously crafted to enhance the sensory experience.

The sense of community at Noisily was truly special. Everyone, from the attendees to the organisers, exuded a warm, welcoming vibe. The festival’s commitment to sustainability and wellness was also commendable, with eco-friendly initiatives and workshops on mindfulness and holistic health available throughout the weekend. It was refreshing to see such a strong emphasis on creating a positive impact. Not to mention the Green Peace representatives on site. At night the trees become even more alive with a cacophony of strategic lights and lasers.

Noisily is an event we want to and will continue to support. A true place of hedonistic community for those wanting a low-key festival with good vibes to dance the night away. The festival will return in July 2025.
