After a turbulent couple of years and increased competition from nearby events like Boomtown, Bestival has struggled to keep itself on top as one of the UK’s most dominate festivals. The brand is in a strong position with six festivals taking place throughout the year in three different countries, however, the flagship festival seems to be struggling to attract party-goers in large numbers like it used to. In 2017 the festival downsized to 25,000 capacity and moved from its thirteen year home on the Isle of White to Lulworth Castle in Dorset, the home of Bestival’s sister family festival Camp Bestival.

This week the festival made its first announcement of the year stating it would, for the first time, move the date from the second weekend in September to the first weekend in August. This seems very disappointing as Bestival has been known to mark the end of summer and the end of the UK festival season. This is seemingly a tactical move in an attempt to re-attract lost customers to the festival. Will this work? Only time will tell.

ALL POINTS EAST / 25th-27th May 2018

It was announced this week that a brand new festival will be taking over Victoria Park in East London on the late May bank holiday weekend. The three-day non-camping affair will feature a lineup of eclectic bands and electronic artists. US electronic band LCD Soundsystem, British indie-electro trio The XX and Icelandic singer/songwriter Bjork take headline slots with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Phoenix, Glass Animals, Lorde, Sampha, Beck and Father John Misty also featured across the weekend.
