Outlook Festival Is Fast Approaching
With it being the height of summer here in the UK, festival season is in full swing with events taking part across the country every weekend, although it has become noticeable that in recent years festivals abroad have received unprecedented popularity. A particularly interesting example of this, Outlook Festival, which started in 2008 and takes place just outside of Pula in Croatia.
Unlike many of the European heavyweight festivals such as Spain’s Benicassim and Sziget that challenge their British counterparts such as Glastonbury, Creamfields and Reading & Leeds, Outlook sets itself a part from the rest, and brands itself as Europe’s largest sound system display, featuring numerous bass-orientated genres and artists. These include drum and bass pioneer Andy C, and Jamaican reggae legend, Damian Marley.
In 2011, the UK Festival Awards saw Outlook Festival receive the ‘Best Overseas Festival’ title, on a year where the event doubled its capacity, allowing a number of new stages to be implemented. Although, many believed this took away from the intimate, underground feeling the festival was previously known for. On the other hand, however, it allowed organisers to secure more exclusive artists.
With the introduction of these new stages, Outlook has become even more well known for its innovative and iconic music venues; based within the Fort Punta Christo and its surrounding beaches. Some of the stages are held inside historic landmarks like the Pula Amphitheatre and an old abandoned fort.
Outlook promises to be a festival of innovative and pioneering shows, of which I look forward to experiencing in a few weeks’ time. Watch this space.
