Concrete Music Present Preditah at The Astoria, Portsmouth

You’ve probably heard of Boy Better Know (BBK), but you may not necessarily of heard of Preditah. Preditah works alongside the likes of Skepta and JME who make up British grime group BBK. Their popularity has exploded in the last six months, playing pretty much every festival going over the summer, not to mention a live tour. Preditah, though, is one of the UK’s top bassline/grime DJs and producers and this time it was his turn to go on tour. Preditah’s Circles tour has been visiting clubs up and down the country and the Birmingham-based DJ never fails to impress with his bagful or fearsome grime and hardcore bassline.

As I’ve mentioned before Portsmouth has an up and coming electronic music scene, and Concrete Music are one of those responsible for helping to put Portsmouth on the map as a destination playing host to great clubs and big artists. After a run of excellent acts at their regular Thursday night in The Astoria, including BBC Radio 1’s Canadian tech DJ b.traits and DJ and producer Lxury, Concrete Music announced Prediath as their next event.

The night was set up differently to that of b.traits. The DJ was bought downstairs into The Astoria’s hot and sticky basement. You can’t argue that sometimes the smaller the better when it comes to music, and this space, with its dimmed lights and low ceiling can’t beaten for atmosphere. Preditah created one of the best nights we’ve had in Portsmouth, varying his set; delving from heavy house and bassline, into grime, and back to underground bassline. The atmosphere mimicked that of a festival, and that was unusual to see replicated in a nightclub. It worked, though, and the relentless moshpits and skanking from the audience just added something that can’t be beaten by a normal club night. This was truly a night remember. And, if you want what can only be described as a ‘dirty’ night of music, then you have to see this DJ. Concrete Music, keep doing what you’re doing!
