Shangri-La Cardiff Presents Jasper James, Cardiff

Jasper James set at Shangri-La, Cardiff was one truly unforgettable night. The event itself always upholds true rave values and the organisers do a truly fantastic job of turning one of Cardiff’s best nightclubs into one of the city’s best rave venues.

With Jackmaster topping the bill you immediately knew that it was going to be a big one, but with close friend and flat mate Jasper James also supplementing the line-up it was one not to be missed – and it wasn’t. Jackmaster once described Jasper James as “one of the most promising DJs in Glasgow”, which is a huge compliment considering the talent and calibre of DJs that Glasgow possess. And he isn’t wrong.

Ever since Jasper’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix in 2014, I’ve been listening to his mixes religiously so naturally was excited for his appearance at Shangri-La. And I wasn’t disappointed. Brought up surrounded in a techno and house environment, and with heavy influences from his father, Jasper is a catalog of knowledge and it showed during his set. It takes you on a journey and one minute you’re listening to one of your favourite tunes then the next he plays an absolute gem you’ve never heard before.

If you have been living in complete ignorance of this lad’s talent then I suggest now is the time to open your eyes. Not only a remarkable DJ, but also a top producer which is proved with his EP “Sneaky”, dropped in 2014.

I’d like to finish this by thanking Jasper for putting on an incredible set at Shangri-La and I cannot wait for the next time I see him. This guy certainly has a huge future ahead of him.
