Knife Party & Dyro Halloween Show – Preview & Interview

This Halloween will see the O2 Academy in Brixton come alive with Knife Party’s very own horror extravaganza. Playing alongside Knife Party on Saturday will be dance DJ Shift K3Y and DJ Dyro, who we were lucky enough to interview ahead of the upcoming show.

Dyro has had a huge summer playing at some of the world’s biggest festivals including EDC New York and Belgium’s Tomorrowland, as well as appearing on Diplo’s BBC Radio 1 show Diplo & Friends. Dyro went into the mix with new, exclusive material. The DJ premiered his all-new production “Like A Boss” just released on his own WOLV imprint (as well as artists releasing on the label previously including UK D&B aficionado Dynamite MC), with dates in his calendar for the rest of the year including London with Knife Party as well as stops in Argentina, Milan and more.

Hi Dyro,

First off, this isn’t the first time you’ve played in London, can you tell us about why you’re looking forward to coming back this Halloween?

London is always so fun, my last show here was at Ministry of Sound in July and you guys always bring the energy!  I like visiting Camden and Brick Lane, everyone is so individual and it’s cool to check out the shops and get something unique to take back home to Amsterdam. I still need to figure out my costume for the night of the show, though!

What has 2015 been like in comparison to other years that you’ve been DJing?

It’s been one of the best years, I played on the main stage of Tomorrowland again which is always great and I was given the opportunity to play the main stage of EDC Las Vegas this Summer just before Sander Van Doorn in the evening which was cool, the energy in Vegas is always high up there. I’ve been concentrating on my label WOLV which I launched last year and we’re still putting out really exciting music that I hope still sounds fresh to the audience too. I’m always listening to new producers to sign on the label! Concentrating on WOLV and my live shows is what is important to me right now.

How are you looking forward to playing alongside Knife Party?

Knife Party are one of my favourite acts and Abandon Ship is such a sick album – I’m always dropping their tracks in my sets so to be invited to play live with them, especially on Halloween when they always do this crazy haunted house show, feels like a party more than a job, you know?

Who is your favourite person who you have met/produced/played with?

I’m a huge fan of Diplo and the Jack Ü project with Skrillex has just been insane – I went and caught the show out in Bangkok and they took the roof off. I went in the mix on his BBC Radio 1 show in August and it’d be great to jump in the studio with him but it’s hard to lock things down as we both have crazy touring schedules. I just went B2B2B with my brothers Hardwell and Dannic at ADE this month and I also checked out sets from the other guys like Kill The Buzz and W&W – always sick!

Finally, what other musical influences have you took to when creating your music?

I like dark, gritty sounds which is what I wanted with my label WOLV but to still be unique. My favourite artists are guys like Knife Party, The Prodigy but I listen to a lot of different stuff, like house and progressive which does feed into my music.

Thanks a lot
