Drumcode at Motion, Bristol

After a sell-out show last year, techno heavyweight Adam Beyer and super club Motion once again teamed up for another Drumcode bonanza. Label founder, Beyer, has been using his expertise and experience as a DJ/producer to throw some pretty wild parties and selling out venues across Europe. Yet again, and no surprise really, this event sold out and was at maximum capacity, full of techno fans from all over the United Kingdom.

The lineup in the main room consisted of Adam Beyer himself, Ida Engberg, Alan Fitzpatrick and tech duo Dense and Pika. Motion’s second room also proved popular, hosted by BBC Radio 1 resident and Canadian techno DJ B.Traits, as well as the ever so talented Monica Kruse. The first act on our agenda was B.Traits, who treated the crowd to a set hat certainly got the blood pumping. She showed off her talented mixing credentials by playing a wide range of techno classics and some up and coming unreleased self-produced music. Following a set from the techno queen, we were then lucky enough to catch the start of Dense & Pika’s set in Motion’s main room. Following on from Ida Engberg, they did not disappoint with their live performance and provided a more heavy, bass-driven set.

The main room at this point was at full capacity, and when the Drumcode head honcho Adam Beyer was up, the atmosphere in the space was absolutely buzzing. He showcased a lot of music, which has been released on his label and some exciting new songs, which are in the pipeline to be released in due course. One of the songs played was a personal favourite called ‘Astral Projection’ by Enrico Sangiuliano, which was released on Drumcode 176. The song was mixed in at the perfect time, as it’s a slow builder with an unpredictable drop. This was greeted by a massive cheer from the crowd.

We at inSYNC would highly recommend going to a Drumcode night in the near future and hopefully, they will return to Bristol again next year. In the meantime, Junction 2 festival in London has collaborated with Motion to put on an upcoming night in February. The lineup boasts the like of Adam Beyer b2b Ida Engberg, Scuba, Nina Kraviz and Dense & Pika and promises to be one of the biggest parties of 2018 so do not hang around buying tickets for this one, as it’s nearly on final release already!
